329 Haiku Poems For Your Spiritual Practice

Foreword
I love Haikus. This short form of Japanese poetry can easily inspire and create images in our minds on which we can meditate upon. Sometimes, the image can bring about a realization, a short glimpse of satori, a window into Buddha-Nature, Enlightenment or emptiness. This book is for anyone who walks on a spiritual path, seeking the Truth and wanting to expand his consciousness.
During the creation of this book, I felt the need of organizing everything in chapters. Eventually I came up with 29, all related to virtues, human traits and spiritual terms. The haiku poems are meant to generate perspectives, views of the world, landscapes, states of mind or states of being. I am using them myself to enhance my own practice. As you read through, you can choose any of them for your practice throughout your day, or maybe to meditate upon. They are great little spiritual companions that can guide or help us on our path.
The way I recommend reading the haikus is the following: choose a chapter, and start reading them one by one, with a pause for meditation after each. You can take as much time as you want to meditate upon them, according to how much you resonate with the message in that particular haiku. They were all written with great attention and care, mostly in silence or in a meditative state, while looking for the deeper meaning of the chapter where they were included into. May these poems that I wrote with much love, help you in your spiritual practice and guide your heart on the path of beauty and exquisiteness. Namaste
Acceptance
1.
The old patched blanket
Resting on the hard wooden bed
Is my silent companion in the night.
2.
I stir the food on the fire
With steady eyes
Of acceptance.
3.
Resting silent in my surroundings
Nothing bothers me
Cars passing by in the distance.
4.
Entering my room
I leave all my troubles
In the old days of the past.
5.
Eating my green soup
That has almost no taste
I salt it with the beauty of the days to come.
6.
In the silence of my hermitage
I am letting go
To all that I ever desired.
7.
In the twilight of the night's sky
I see your eyes
Glittering with forgiveness.
8.
I rest complete
In the open sky
Fireflies in the night.
9.
I love the way
Everything shows me
Its simplicity.
10.
Accepting everything
The way it is
My soul is liberated.
11.
I know in my heart
That freedom is found
In agreeing with the Universe.
Awareness
1.
On the quiet river
There’s only one small boat
Going downstream, gently.
2.
Wishes come true
On the surface
Of everlasting awareness.
3.
Alert stillness
Springs from the core of my being
In all directions.
4.
What is inside is also outside
Who am I?
I rest quietly.
5.
No thought and no action
Seem to come from everywhere
A circumstance that can never be explained.
6.
Insights come and go
I rest effortlessly
In the space of Now.
7.
Realizing I am not aware
Quick illumination of the mind
A small fragrant orange candle.
8.
The patience to see what's next
Keeps me going
In this natural relaxed alertness.
9.
Life has its own way
Of telling you its story
In the ever unfolding awareness.
10.
I’m on a winding path
Through the tall forest grass
Every step I take roots me into the earth.
11.
Undefinable in words
Alert state of mind
Everything seems to stop.
Buddha-nature
1.
The red flower knows
The beginning and the end
Of the world’s emptiness.

Everything exists as pure
Unwavering source of love
Eternal and flowing unceasingly.

Green leaves are vessels of love
To the naked eye
Of the Buddha.

Empty cup in the morning
Full cup in the afternoon
I never have any cups.
5.
Golden letters carved on a rock
Enlightenment is one step away
For the one that suffers.

Blending ink and water
We will always exist
In the vast ocean of Buddha-nature.
7.
One can never have
To many adornments,
As an offering to the Buddha.
8.
People walking on the streets
Unaware of the treasure they hold
Unmanifested Buddha-nature.
9.
Inherent in everything
Deep wavering layers of love and compassion
Flow relentlessly.
10.
The fundamental nature
Of all beings of the past, present and future
Is found in the luminous nature of the mind.
11.
My mind is looking for the Truth,
But cannot see it
For the Truth is beyond comprehension.

A mother’s love
Is overflowing
Rain over the tree saplings.

That count their blessings
In sacredness and kindness.

Buddha’s blessings
Upon everyone
That I meet.

Deeply shared insights
Can only be possible
In a world of Compassion.

Understanding your sorrow
Sitting on the same white flower
Last night.

Awaken
Through a world of suffering
I sow the seeds of compassion.

Innumerable offerings
To the Great Goddess
With white lilies in her hair.

The white path of compassion
Is rarely found
In a human’s life.

Dedicating her path
To alleviate the suffering of others
She rests high up in the sky, looking down upon the Earth.

With her beautiful
Rose quartz heart
She heals the many wounds of our souls.

Sowing the seeds of gentleness
In every word that I say and every action that I do
May everyone be free from suffering.

The garden has
So many beautiful flowers
I lose myself in them.

I wonder
At the unfolding grace
Of the Creator.

The high mountain peak
Can be seen through the white clouds
Of tranquility.

The high forest line
Is mighty green
In the fresh morning air.

A leaf is only a leaf
Green in its nature
It will someday turn yellow.
6.
The Buddha’s golden statue
Lies before me
With eyes half shut.
7.
I look across my table
Mesmerized
By the light of your presence.
8.
I rest undisturbed
Watching the clouds go by
So much peacefulness in my heart.
9.
Trees and benches
A few people passing by silently
I remain in introspection; my mind is at ease.
10.
There are so many violet flowers
In this heavenly meadow
Few butterflies attract my attention.
11.
In the easy, contemplative mind
There is no space
For rushing thoughts.
